Matthew 5:16 (ESV) – “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Have you ever noticed how even a small light can change a dark room?

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” That is a wonderful truth, but we must remember this: we are not the source of the light. Christ is. On our own, we cannot produce spiritual light. But when Christ lives in us, His light begins to shine through us.

This means the Christian life is not about trying to look bright on the outside. It begins with Christ working inside us. As He changes our hearts, our words, choices, and attitudes begin to reflect Him. His light becomes visible in the way we respond to pressure, how we treat people, and how we live each day.

Jesus also reminds us that light is not meant to be hidden. A lamp is placed on a stand so others can see. In the same way, God did not place us in this world to blend into the darkness. He calls us to live in a way that is different—honest when others compromise, kind when others are harsh, peaceful when others are full of anger.

But the purpose of our light is not to draw attention to ourselves. Jesus says our lives should lead people to glorify the Father. Our good works are not for our praise, but for God’s glory. When people see Christlike patience, kindness, truth, and love in us, they should be pointed not to us, but to Him.

So today, ask yourself: Is Christ’s light clearly seen in my life? If there are areas that have grown dim, come back to the Source. Stay close to Jesus. Let Him shine through you again.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the true light. Shine in me and through me. Help my life reflect Your truth, love, and goodness, so that others may see You and give glory to the Father. Amen.
