Welcoming the King

Global Harvesters Full Gospel Church

Mark 11:9 (NASB95) - “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Jesus’ final week on earth—what we call Holy Week. As Jesus entered Jerusalem, He was not coming by accident or coincidence. He came with purpose, knowing fully what awaited Him. This moment, known as the Triumphal Entry, was a public declaration: the King has arrived.

But He did not come as the people expected. No warhorse, no army—just a colt, symbolising peace. Jesus came not to overthrow Rome but to overcome sin. Many cheered and shouted “Hosanna,” laying down cloaks and branches in joyful praise. Yet, as the week unfolded, that same crowd would change. Their praise was loud, but not lasting.

Jesus also entered the temple and looked around. Then, He cursed a fig tree that had leaves but no fruit—an image of spiritual pretense. Israel had all the signs of religion but lacked true faith. Jesus was not impressed by outward appearances. He looks for fruit—transformed hearts and lives surrendered to Him.

This Palm Sunday, Jesus still enters—not into a city but into our lives. The question is: will He find a heart full of worship or just leaves of routine religion? Will we still praise Him when He does not meet our expectations? Will our faith bear fruit, or will it be all show and no substance?

Jesus is the King who deserves more than momentary praise—He desires daily surrender and genuine fruit. Ask yourself today: Is He truly King over my life, or just a guest I welcome on special occasions?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the King who came in peace to save us. I welcome You not just today, but every day. Cleanse my heart of empty religion. Help me trust Your purpose, praise You with my life, and bear fruit that honors You. In Your name, Amen.
